Poetry without earbuds
I wrote it I lost it I rewrote it and somehow my first draft has returned. I shall sort all these scurilous letters out later.
I have been up to my elbows in neurons, been trying to do justice to the complex task of finding the poetry switch inside the heads of 15 year olds. You know the ones, they will pop those ear buds into their ears without even thinking, reach for the music button in house and car without even blinking, They are me all those years ago, but with the volume turned up, cos it's always at hand. Some have given me laughter and pathos and joie de vive, rhythm and fun. More later maybe... but in this mix, two well chosen representatives of the French student exchange program are leaving tomorrow. I've caught them off guard by sometimes mumbling and sometimes declaring my best French phrases. Not that there are too many to choose from. Anyway I go thru the old " I know lots of French words....bon voyage, fait accompli et Paris... And think I'll offer them some Aussie culture which celebrates our cultural bond. So I find the lyrics, and can hum the tune, but what's it called? Well eventually I find La Vie en Rose [Life in pink - Ella (5)would lerve that]; at a site not blocked by the department, cos you don't want it too be too easy or educational. And ah a music clip, Beautiful. So I email the URL for later reference, and present The French song. They love it and can't believe we use all those French words. Poetic. The conversation flows to a place where the girl tells me in a chocolate voice that she has discovered pure culture in Australia in the form of Tim tams

Australian Rules
Dumby and Gary are Red and Black. The White one is back and the Black one is white. Strange when you think about it. Strange if you don't think about it. Tell me now, how is Deadly Unna different to the movie Australian Rules. Why did the director choose to change the story? Why did he leave in what he did? And how many times did Blacky fall down in the film? Would you have insured him? Who do you think was the best actor? And if this was based on a real story, and you were closely involved, would you give permission for the film to be produced? Tell me your reasons. What characters did you relate to?
